Our Prince is Peace

Susan Macias

Stanza V

When men repent and turn from sin

The Prince of Peace then enters in,

And grace imparts within their hearts

His peace on earth, good will to men.

Seven hundred years before Jesus came to earth as a baby, the prophet Isaiah promised, “For to us a child is born. . . and his name shall be called . . . Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 ESV) Surrounded with a lack of peace in our world and our nation this Christmas, this title echoes our desire to see resolution.

Someday Jesus will return, establishing peace when He reigns. But until then, even in the turmoil of our times, we can experience personal peace in every moment of our earthly lives. As in the stanza above, the Prince of Peace desires to enter into our hearts and lives.

What is our part of this transaction? As we repent, confess our sinful hearts, and recognize Jesus as our only pathway to God, He rushes into us. He dwells in us, not because we deserve or earn it, but because He loves us that much.

This Peaceful Prince brings grace flooding into the recesses of our souls. And then, not only do we have the miracle of redemption and restoration, but through His presence we also have the continual presence of peace. This peace does not rest on circumstances and it stands through turmoil. While all else falls into chaos, we can rest in the arms of our faithful Prince.

We look forward to the promise of resting eternally in Him. But for now, our only path to peace in this fallen world is through the internal residence of Jesus. His grace permeates our hearts and His joy marinates our souls. Christmas IS merry because we rest joyfully in His faithful arms.
