December 4 God Promises Some Unusual Things

And all of you clothe yourselves in humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 1Peter 5:5b NASB

Sometimes God’s promises are stated in the negative as well as the positive. He is opposed to the proud, yet He promised to give grace to the humble. What does He mean by being opposed to the proud? Is this meant to show the possibility that I may be proud? That it could be a character flaw in any of us? As a result of original sin, I am not perfect, but I can be humble enough to admit my imperfections.

Jesus entered this world as a baby, and left as the God/Man. He set the example for us. He humbled Himself and entered this world as a baby, grew from a young boy under his earthly father’s care and became a shepherd healing people of their physical, mental and spiritual sins.Jesus gave Himself to God’s plan, no matter how painful. even unto death on the Cross for us.

He knew I would struggle with humility. He knew I would fail many times. He loved me enough to save me from my striving to be anything good without His grace.

Father, may I seek Your face and Your grace this Christmas, as I humble my heart before You.
