December 5 Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 1 Peter 1:20 NIV

My water broke at thirty-six weeks with my firstborn. This was during the dark ages before cell phones. I couldn’t just text my husband, “It’s time!”

After he arrived, we loaded up and sped to the hospital. We were greeted with unforgettable words, “There’s no room in the inn.” I couldn’t believe my ears! We were placed in a small corner and didn’t have a nurse until much later. This was not what I’d envisioned for the delivery of my son.

I wonder how Mary felt when she heard those words? Perhaps she thought, “Lord, have you forgotten me? I don’t understand, wasn’t this all part of Your plan?” After all, He promised she’d bear a son. This One who was chosen before the creation of the world.

But she was in labor, and with every contraction she knew her baby could not wait! There had to be room for the King. It was almost too late! Bethlehem had no room for Jesus.

Do we make room for Him in our lives, or has He been crowded out by “to-do” lists and distractions? Many times, He’s been pushed aside while I pursued other things. May we give the Lord ample room to move in our hearts as we focus on the Greatest Gift of all!

Father, forgive us for not giving You the room You deserve. May we always seek You first, in Jesus name, Amen.
