December 6 A Daily Promise

The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:24-25 NKJV

Days drip by, and colors fade in the grind of a routine schedule in this thing called life. Suddenly, something snaps. I’m tired of withering grass and wilting flowers—I need a promise. A God-sized promise that He still sees and cares about my daily life.

Yet here we are in December. Have you ever wondered why the Christmas season is set in the dead of winter? With festive lights, memorable ornaments, and cheery carols, it is hard to notice cold snaps and biting wind chills. Instead, Christmas warms the atmosphere, beautifying winter. I wonder if Peter thought of the Christmas birth while contemplating on Isaiah 40:8 in his letter, for here is the God-sized promise I need in the form of a tiny baby. Jesus is the Word that endures within the daily grind, lovingly handing us the fulfilled promise of His life, if only we will take it for today. It is amid grinding days and weeks that “soul-gospeling” must take place. Yes, gospeling, meaning a RE-reminding of the beauty of the gospel. Although the grass withers and the flower falls away, the good news of Jesus Christ sustains.

Lord, soak my soul in the gospel today.
