coverInsignificant Me?

Elizabeth Dillard

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. Matthew 1:17 (KJV)

Generations. A whole life, giving birth to a son, who also gives birth. And not just a few generations, but fourteen three times. Counting up, that’s forty-two generations from King David to King Jesus.

I wonder about those forty-two generations, did they know the importance of their lineage? God promised Abraham the Messiah would come from His lineage, and yet centuries passed with no Messiah. Yea, God promised, but maybe He forgot? Or changed His mind?  Or…

And yet God calls us out of fear, leading the hopeful to lie down in green pastures, beside the cool waters. He restores with hope.  Generations pass, yet within each life God provided. Just like the forty-two generations leading up to the birth of Jesus, God works in each of our lives, giving us the promise and hope enveloped within His beloved Son, Our Savior and King.

No longer are we lost in numbers – He knows and cares giving significance to the lowly and peace to the hopeful.

Jesus, you never forget.  You not only paid for our eternal life, but you actively pursue an intimate, loving relationship with each accepting believer.  Thank you for finding my significance in Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
