Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.
II Corinthians 5:17 (RSV)
Sam’s friend challenged; “You believe in Jesus? I believe I’ll have another beer. You were a lot more fun before you got involved with this Jesus business. You’ve changed so much, I hardy know you. You people put a lot of stock in that Bible of yours. Everyone knows it’s a collection of disconnected stories filled with things that couldn’t possibly have happened. The virgin birth, one man dying for the sins of the world, come on, give me a break. Hope in Jesus, you best start putting your hope in reality. I put hope only in things that I can see and measure.”
Had a similar experience? Sam’s friend overlooked the obvious, Sam’s changed life. One of the most discernible things that can be seen and measured is the change Christ brings into the life of one who has accepted His salvation. The prophecy of His coming, purpose on earth, and the record of His life, death, and resurrection are all consistent throughout scripture, should anyone care to look.
On the occasion of our Savior’s birthday, perhaps it is well to consider if our new nature is obvious. If we have a sure and certain hope in Jesus, shouldn’t others be able to see the evidence?
Lord, direct my path in order that my life reflects Christ.
